Ranching in California has been Tom Selleck’s lifestyle for over 30 years. He says his wife and ranch help him stay grounded. Tom was born in Detroit in January 1945 and began acting in the 1960s in modest roles in TV and movies. He made his mark on Magnum, PI, playing Thomas Magnum for eight years. This portrayal brought him acclaim and a Primetime Emmy for best lead actor.
Tom Selleck became popular after Magnum, PI with parts in The Closer and Friends. He stars on “Blue Bloods” opposite Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and others. The show has 13 seasons and is popular.
Instead of pursuing a more successful profession, Tom Selleck focused on his personal life. Balance between work and life is important to him. So he left Magnum, PI in 1987.
Tom disliked fame’s attention. Though he appreciated his career, fame wasn’t always easy for him. He remarked, “I knew intellectually what it would mean in terms of being a public person, but until you’ve lived it, there’s no way to understand it.”
Tom Selleck left Magnum, PI because he was tired and wanted more. He married Jillie Joan Mack, his second wife, in 1987 after leaving the program. Her energetic and exuberant demeanor can brighten a room, he says.
Jillie Joan Mack was an English dancer and actress. Tom and Jillie bought Dean Martin’s Ventura ranch a year after marrying. It reportedly has about 1,500 natural trees.
When Tom is away filming Blue Bloods in New York for the past decade, his wife Jillie manages the ranch. Despite leaving her work, a friend of the couple said Jillie is happy because she enjoys being with her animals, which are always with her on the ranch.
Tom Selleck and Jillie Mack adore their property. Tom wanted time to regroup and regain privacy before buying it. Some concerned about his career because he didn’t embark on many assignments. But he said he wasn’t interested in the projects presented.
Tom saw his work troubles as an opportunity to discover peace. It took time to return to work after leaving Magnum to establish a family. The ranch helps him maintain balance, something he works hard for.
Tom and Jillie married almost 30 years and had their only daughter, Hannah, in 1988. They assumed their daughter would thrive on the ranch.

Tom Selleck and his wife were accused of taking a lot of water without permission, which was startling and unpleasant. A building site hydrant near their home supplied the water.
Calleguas Municipal Water District said Selleck stole many truckloads of water. He allegedly utilized a large truck to fill the hydrant and return it to his land. They recorded 12 travels over two years, but more may have gone unnoticed. So they didn’t know how much water was stolen.
The actor ignored two warnings from officials to stop drinking water without permission in late 2013.
He paid $21,000 for a private inquiry and extra for damages. He was also barred from using Calleguas Municipal Water District water for personal use.
