After showing herself in a sleeveless dress on social media, a 76-year-old grandma received harsh abuse in comments.
Though opinions are common, often it is forgotten that it is wise to keep some to yourself.
An image of the 76-year-old fashion influencer wearing a midi-sleeveless dress was recently shared on social media. Though there were a lot of comments on the piece, not all of them were favorable.
“Although it’s not the first time, I was surprised by this particular incident,” Candace Cima told TODAY. “This mindset needs to change because there are still outdated ideas about what is appropriate for fashion at a given age.”
Grandmother Cima, who has eleven grandkids, was wearing a brown knit sleeveless dress and a jumper.
“From the side and back, this dress does nothing for you,” was the criticism posted by someone on Facebook. Under the waist, form fitting is not your friend. Honor everything else about your physique with joy!
“The sweater on, not a fan of the dress,” said a another commenter.
Not flattering at all, declared a another user, boldly. Wouldn’t wear by themselves. Old enough not to be flaunting so much skin.
In response, Cima said, “I’m not ashamed of my wrinkles; it’s totally acceptable to have wrinkles at 76.” I sometimes want to respond, “Should I cover my face too, since it’s wrinkled?”
In 2019, Cima launched her fashion blog after realizing there was a gap in the industry for older ladies.
“I saw an opportunity to talk about aging well-groomed. The idea that women should conceal themselves is deeply instilled in them, since they emulate their mothers and grandmothers.
“We need to adopt a new viewpoint on aging. In the contemporary world, there’s no reason to adhere to antiquated ideas.
Even though Cima received a lot of nasty comments, she decided to ignore them and instead mentor some of her younger and newer followers.
“Getting older is wonderful.” You now have access to everything you have ever learnt in your life. You are the wisest you will ever be right now. Rejoice in it and embrace it.
