The 31-year-old Danish woman is obviously questioning accepted notions of beauty because she doesn’t worry about her unibrow or shave her mustache. Meet Copenhagen-based instructor Eldina Jaganjac, who has disproved expectations of beauty from society and males in particular.
At thirty-one years old, Eldina bravely decided in March 2020 to embrace her natural appearance by letting her face hair grow. She discovered some freedom in accepting herself exactly as she is, in defiance of the conventional beauty standards that demand women to be smooth and hair-free. Naturally, this offended some people. Men could say things like she had a “third head” staring out at them. But Eldina uses her face hair as a great filter, excluding those she would much rather avoid.
Eldina is adamant that her mustache and unibrow turn off “conservative” suitors and draw in those who value her for who she is rather than only her appearance.
“I used to think that women only had a few options when it came to how they should look,” she said. My obsession with keeping my eyebrows well trimmed existed even before I accepted my unibrow. Nobody gives a man a second thought if he skips shaving his beard. Just thought of as usual.
Eldina went on, “Like many other women, I used to be rather harsh with myself. Without well groomed eyebrows, I wouldn’t leave the house, and without flawlessly waxed legs, I wouldn’t go to the gym.
All that has changed lately, though. “These days, my priorities are my responsibilities and objectives rather than my looks. I won’t lose sleep over it, and even if I did, I wouldn’t give a damn,” she said sarcastically.
It seemed strange at first, Eldina said. She added with a healthy dose of well-earned sarcasm, “But if people don’t have anything better to do than yell at strangers, then that’s their problem.”
