Man’s Last Wish is to Place His Loved Dog in a New Home: “Like Trying to Find a Home for Your Child”

Though he is aware that his life is coming to an end, a man with terminal cancer is more worried about his cherished dog, whose destiny is unknown when his master passes away.

Now, before he dies, the man wants to locate his beloved pet the ideal home.

Ten years ago, Plainville, Massachusetts resident David Fine saved his favorite dog Babs, a Shar-Pei/Boxer mix, from a shelter. The two have never been able to be parted.

The two will regretfully soon have to say goodbye: Cancer is killing 63-year-old David.

Before learning the terrible news that he had stage 4 lung cancer, David received therapy for leukemia and was diagnosed with vascular disease, according to WJAR.

Treatments would have reduced David’s quality of life even though they might have given him a little more time.

The doctors informed him he had six months to live five months ago. David’s #1 concern as his time is running out is finding Babs a new place to live.

It pains me to lose pets, therefore I had promised myself I would never buy another one, David told WJAR. Regretfully, she will outlast me this time.

As he put it, “It’s like trying to find a home for your child,” David, who is childless, values his devoted dog above all else in his life.

At this point, she is everything. Her fate is open, but mine is sealed.

David says he wants to watch Babs move and become used to a new place while he is still living. Babs will be turned over to her new family after he goes into hospice care. He will “rest at peace” knowing she is safe and protected, even though he claims having to give up his dog would “kill him”.

Animal rescuer Jennie Mann is assisting him; she posted about the opening on social media and is interviewing possible applicants. David, she said, is a “sweet kind-hearted man” whose “dying wish” is to find Babs a home.

His puppy is his life, she said in a Facebook post. “He said he can’t rest till he knows his baby will be cared for after he passes away.”

He wants someone to love her the way he does, she said. He wants her to know that although he has passed, he did not desert her. She shouldn’t feel like she lives with a stranger, hence he wants her to feel at ease moving into a new house.

Jennie reports that although Babs is a devoted and caring dog free of behavioral problems, she must be the only dog in the home because she does not get along with other dogs.

Jennie reported in a May 10 update that she has been meeting with prospective adopters; nevertheless, the hunt is still ongoing because many of them either live too far away or have pets at home.

Hopefully, though, before David passes away, they will be able to locate Babs the ideal home.

Though it’s a depressing story, it’s lovely to consider that David is spending his last days worrying most about his cherished dog😓❤️Among us
