Former fifth-grade teacher Laura Morris of Leesburg, Virginia’s Lucketts Elementary School resigned from her job because she wouldn’t teach critical race theory (CRT).
Morris quit the Loudoun County School Board after tearingfully expressing her disapproval of the group’s “highly-politicized agendas” during a meeting. She took issue with the CRT curriculum revisions and equity training, which examine how racism is ingrained in society systems.
The children are our most vulnerable constituents, so Morris said, “I quit being a cog in a machine that tells me to push highly-politicized agendas on them.” She disclosed that the district’s ideals and her Christian convictions were at odds.
She also expressed worries about how the political goals of the school district would impact her personal life. Morris was forwarded emails warning her not to voice dissenting views, even in her private life.
Morris made the decision to step down because she was annoyed by the district’s apparent prejudice against particular groups and its lack of regard for concerned individuals.
Morris urged staff members and parents to look into alternate educational opportunities in her impassioned speech.
