A young married man once came into the company of a beautiful woman. The man consented to pay $500 for her company and they agreed to spend the night together. But as the evening drew to an end, he couldn’t help but think it hadn’t lived up to his hopes. For all he had gone through, he thought the sum he had agreed to pay was excessive.
They decided he would mail her a check made out to “apartment rent” instead of paying her in cash. They might split up peacefully in this way. However, still not happy, the man chose to send her just half of the agreed amount and with a note expressing his displeasure.
His message began, “Dear Madam,
You will find a $250 cheque meant for your rent enclosed. Since I had specific expectations when I rented the unit, I have sent a different sum than we originally agreed upon. I anticipated finding a quiet flat with a nice, welcoming ambiance. But yesterday night I found out that the flat was too large for my taste, had been occupied before, and lacked adequate heating.
The woman was surprised to get the letter and the smaller sum. She quickly gave the man back the cheque and wrote back, “Dear Sir,
First off, the idea that you thought a lovely flat would stay empty forever amazes me. If you know how to use it correctly, there is a solution for the heating problem. And as far as the size of the space goes, it is really plenty. Please do not point the finger at the landlord if you are unhappy with the furniture. I have to inform you that I will be forced to get in touch with your present landlord if you do not send in the entire $500.
It is important to remember from this narrative never to assume anything or make snap judgments. When we do, there can be unanticipated repercussions.” Let this story therefore serve as a lesson to us all. Post this tale on Facebook to your friends and family to share the knowledge.
