Mary Elkind and Joseph Potenzano initially crossed paths in 1959. Their tale started during Joseph’s sister’s wedding in Paramus, New Jersey. Mary was the maid of honor, and Joseph was the best man. After that, they went on several dates because they were that smitten. But their love was short-lived. Things didn’t get better when they parted ways with each other in life.
After that, Joseph worked at Picatinny Arsenal as an engineer. Mary attempted to pursue her dream of becoming a dancer and gave performances at Radio City Music Hall before she married her late husband Mort Elkind.
Joseph started to feel lonely in 2020, the year he turned 90. Recalling Mary, he made the decision to reconnect with her. After a family gathering, he asked her to coffee, and they ended up going to an Irish dance performance together. Their friendship developed into a lovely partnership over the course of the following few months.
When 85-year-old Mary and 94-year-old Joseph announced they were getting married in July 2023, people were taken aback. Joseph proposed to Mary as they were seated on his couch, and she gladly accepted. Mary’s children were initially a little perplexed because they believed Joseph might be related. This occurred as a result of their 64-year family reunion tradition.
On October 15, they were married in Paramus, New Jersey, at the Our Lady of the Visitation Roman Catholic Church. That day, close friends and family were present. Joseph and Mary want to look forward to spending as much time as possible with one other.
