A helpless baby animal with a jar stuck on its head finds itself waiting by the road, hoping for someone to come to its rescue. Little did anyone know what was about to unfold…
One day, while driving near Cross Fork, Pennsylvania, park ranger Sarah Lindgren was taken aback by something that caught her attention.
There, right off the wooded road, was an animal in obvious distress.
Lindgren informed The Dodo that they came across a bear-like creature with an object on its head, appearing still, on the roadside.
As Lindgren approached the animal, his suspicions were confirmed. It turned out to be a bear cub with its head stuck in an empty plastic jar. And suddenly, signs of life emerged.
“As I approached the cub, it lifted its head,” Lindgren said. So, I decided to adopt a stealthy approach to reach him.
With the bear’s prominent position by the roadside, it seemed as though he was actively seeking assistance from a passing motorist. And that’s precisely what the bear was given.
After a determined effort, Lindgren successfully rescued the cub from the jar.
“Afterwards, [he] seemed quite disoriented and gave me a suspicious glance,” Lindgren remarked. I began urging him to continue walking to avoid any potential accidents with passing vehicles.
After the bear had retreated to a safe distance, Lindgren promptly informed the Pennsylvania Game Commission of the incident.
During the incident, Lindgren did not catch sight of the bear’s mother. However, according to officials, the cub is now at an estimated 8 months of age and is deemed capable of surviving on its own, as stated by Lindgren. Possibly, he might have already been engaged in that activity.
“In my opinion, had the mother been present, she could have handled the situation and removed the container on her own,” Lindgren commented. It seems likely that he was accustomed to solitude.
Luckily, Lindgren caught sight of the bear once more a few days after the rescue, observing that it seemed to be recovering its strength.
He has a good chance of pulling through! Lindgren stated. “I did everything within my power, and I’m glad that I was able to offer my assistance.”
