A young girl’s luck took a turn when she faced rejection from her mother and 20 potential adoptive families.
Luca Trapanese’s story of adopting baby Alba has gained widespread attention for various reasons, with one being the rarity of social services granting custody to a single, homosexual man.

As per the BBC, Luca, a 41-year-old Italian, recently released a book detailing his experience of becoming the father of Alba, a girl with Down syndrome.

In Italy, adoptions for same-sex and single parents have historically been a complex process.

“I was informed that I would only receive a child with an illness, a severe disability, or behavioral issues,” he shared with the BBC. “I was completely fine with that.”

Luca welcomed Alba into his home in 2017 when she was only 13 days old, despite being rejected by 20 families due to her condition.

She filled my life with joy and a deep sense of satisfaction. He expressed his pride in being her father.

Luca has experience working in various care centers for individuals with special needs and has always dreamed of becoming a parent. His desire to assist others began at the age of 14, following the loss of his closest companion to cancer.

He dedicated his time to organizations associated with the Catholic church, frequently assisting individuals who were critically ill or disabled.

That’s why, even without a partner, he chose to move forward with adopting Alba, who is now happily settled in her new home with her father.

As per the BBC, Alba is a resilient young child who can be persistent at times. She adores playing and dancing, relishing the presence of others.

It was my initial experience holding a newborn infant. Prior to that moment, fear had always consumed me. However, when he first held Alba, he knew he was prepared to be her father,” he stated. I was filled with happiness. She immediately felt a strong connection with her.

The couple enjoys spending time together, filling their days with plenty of enjoyable activities.

Undoubtedly, the pandemic has impacted their lives, yet it’s truly heartwarming to witness their affectionate bond. They enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling around Italy, painting, socializing with friends, and cherishing each other’s company.
