Dolly Parton is famous in two circles: the country music industry and the celebrity world.
Despite spending most of her life onstage, the Tennessee native has become a legend and enjoys entertaining her legions of fans.
Despite continuing to create new music, the 76-year-old music icon has recently announced that she will cease touring.
Why is Dolly Parton not going on tour anymore? She explained it in a recent interview with Pollystar. In her statement, she said:
From time to time, I put on one-of-a-kind performances. Perhaps play a couple sets during a festival or a long weekend. But a full-fledged tour is no longer in my future.
Rather, the 76-year-old country music legend will focus on her husband Carl Thomas Dean and continue making music.
The Wishy Washy Laundromat was the meeting place for Dolly and Carl Dean in 1964 in Nashville, Tennessee. Carl was twenty-one years old and Dolly was eighteen. There was an immediate quality about the young woman that Carl found remarkable.
Dean reportedly told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m going to marry that girl,” upon first meeting her.
I then had the thought, “Lord, she’s stunningly beautiful.” I came into this world at that moment. I wouldn’t trade the last half-century for the world.
Dolly Parton said in an interview with the New York Times in 1976 that Dean “holled” at her from his pickup truck as they crossed paths. His offer of a date was declined by her. On the contrary, she extended an invitation to her nephew a few days later while he was under her care. It was the first chapter in an eternal love tale.
Ringgold, Georgia was the site of a clandestine ceremony in May 1966 where Dolly and Carl exchanged vows. She had a job to think about, so her record company suggested they put off their wedding. To avoid publicity in their home state of Tennessee, Dean and Dolly decided to have their wedding in Georgia instead. They were impatient and didn’t want to wait. Only her mother, Dolly, and Carl were there.
Afterwards, Dolly and Carl’s love blossomed into something far deeper. In 2016, the happy couple commemorated their golden wedding anniversary. They decided to celebrate by renewing their vows.
Now they’re going to hang around for a lot longer.
In her interview with Pollstar, Parton discussed her travels in further detail:
It’s been a lifelong endeavor of mine, and I must say, it is laborious. When I’m with my hubby, I like to keep to myself. Since we are growing older, I would prefer not to depart for longer periods of time, say four or five weeks. Something could happen. Someone may need me while I was away, and I wouldn’t be happy about it. Otherwise, I would feel terrible if I had to cut short a tour because I was needed back home and couldn’t abandon my followers.
According to the singer, her spouse will also classify her most recent songs as rock & roll. In fact, Parton was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame only in May.
I reasoned, “Well, no better time to do it” after hearing that I had received a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination. I’d always wanted to do it. Because my husband is a great hard rock ‘n’ roll fan, I’ve been thinking, “One of these days I’d like to do an album basically just for him, just to kind of do it,” for years.
The artist is reportedly finishing on her new album at the same time she is filming an NBC Christmas special. After she elaborated:
Dolly, enjoy yourself! Your generosity to us is very remarkable! Take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. You are loved by all who know you.
