For fans of Blue Bloods, it’s a moment of mixed emotions. In February of 2024, CBS will air the highly-anticipated return of the popular Friday night police drama. Having said that, the last season’s status is now known as well. But it doesn’t imply it’s going away in May. Where does the program go from here?
Due to the joint WGA and SAG strikes, Blue Bloods, like many network shows, has been delayed from its intended autumn 2023 debut. After much deliberation, the two sides have finally reached an agreement, and Season 14 will premiere on Friday, February 16, 2024.
With the series’ comeback imminent, that reduces the typical episode order. For fans, it’s both good news and bad news.
Is there bad news? This iconic police drama will indeed conclude with Season 14. This is disappointing, but not completely unexpected. Due to CBS’s desire to focus on younger programs and the exorbitant pay of the cast (particularly Tom Selleck), Blue Bloods fetches a premium price from the network despite its success. Even for CBS, fourteen years is a long time for a network drama, therefore the show has dabbled with cancelation in subsequent seasons. The network may have decided it’s preferable to go with a newer series instead of one aimed at an older demographic as a result of the strikes.
Why is Season 14 marking the end of Blue Bloods?
The show was lauded by CBS Studios President David Stapf and CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach in a joint statement.
Blue Bloods is an enduringly cherished part of CBS’s history. Leonard Goldberg, the famous creator of this iconic series, and the incredible ensemble, headed by Tom Selleck, whom the United States welcomed as family and enjoyed as dinner guests at Reagan’s table, have our eternal gratitude. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the amazing creative teams, headed by executive producer Kevin Wade, who have brought us countless riveting episodes over the years, and to them as they plan what we hope will be the most emotionally rewarding season for our dedicated fans.
For the cast as a whole, Tom Selleck expressed his feelings about the show’s finale.
It has been a joy and a privilege to work on a show that honors and celebrates the New York City police and firefighters for the last thirteen years, and it has also shown the value of family. It has been an honor to work on over 275 episodes with such a remarkable cast, crew, and staff of actors, writers, producers, directors, and more. We are really grateful to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their unwavering support, and we want to express our sincere appreciation to all of the fans who joined us for dinner each week.
Kevin Wade, who ran the show, made the last announcement and assured viewers that the series will conclude well.
The outstanding actors, the brilliant and creative writers, and the top crew in the industry worked together to create Blue Bloods, and their work will live on in perpetuity. Our eternal gratitude goes out to the fans for their unwavering support and enthusiasm throughout the years, and we are eager to provide them with an exhilarating and emotionally fulfilling last season.
Therefore, the show’s cancellation is disappointing news for viewers. The bright side, though, is that it will have a particularly grand farewell party in the run-up to 2024.
The last episodes of Blue Bloods will air at what time?
The potential episode count for Blue Bloods’ fourteenth season was an open subject. The last season will now air in two parts, with 10 episodes in the spring of 2024 and the remaining eight kept for next fall, according to TVLine.
This is a great decision since it ensures that the program will air again in the fall of 2024 on CBS and gives the actors and writers time to be ready for the final bow. As Frank continues to dedicate himself to his role as NYPD Commissioner, the finale is expected to explore different tensions within the Reagan family.
